 Emergency Maintenance on Mail Server
Posted By: William C On: 05 Jul 2010 01:35 PM
Details This message applies to only the clients who are on any of the following servers 66.63.181.87, 66.63.181.102 & 66.63.181.104

This is to inform you that we have taken down the mail server for emergency maintenance, this maintenance period started on Monday 5th July 2010 at 6:00AM PDT (GMT -7).

According to our calculations this maintenance period will last till Monday 5th July 2010 14:00PM PDT(GMT -7).

We had to take down the server to prevent damage to the RAID array which had multiple failures, in order to preserver data we have to keep this server down till the raid array is healthy. Two HD's will be swaped during this period. We do not expect any data loss but there will be no email connectivity during this period.

We are very sorry for the loss of connectivity, but there was no choice for us. Either we would have allowed speriodic connectivity and tried to rebuild the server which could have taken days or we could have taken the server down and confront the problem head on. We took the second option.

~~~~~~~~~ Update ~~~~~~~~~~
Maintenance period is now over and the server is back online.We are sorry for the extended maintenance period.
Two hours into the maintenance period we setup a temporary backup MX server so that you do not lose any incoming emails from standard compliant servers. This backup email service is now delivering your messages to the primary server. Within the next 24 hours you should receive all your incoming email which was delivered during the maintenance period.
Keep in mind that standard complaint mail servers are required to keep trying mail delivery for 24 hours, so you should not lose any emails.
We have also decided on principle to set up a permanent backup mx service, it has been decided to setup this backup mx service within this week.
